The Joys of Sharing a Room

Our babies will most certainly be sharing a room! Okay, to be perfectly honest, sweet baby Asher will most likely be sharing a room with mommy and daddy for an undetermined amount of time, but at least their belongings will cohabitate. I think it is good for siblings to share a bedroom, at least for a little while!
So anyway, it has been a bit of a challenge to design a boy/girl room and fit everything in that needed to go. Their bedroom is very oddly shaped, thanks to a chimney that runs up through their room on one wall, and a window cubby on another wall. I think Derek and I tried about 4 different placements of the furniture before we decided on one that would work. And I love the way it has turned out!
After looking at several local furniture shops, we realized it was actually cheaper to buy a bed from Pottery Barn Kids. Who would have thought?! I love love love this bed. It is so cute and perfect for a little girl! It will definitely be her bed until she moves out of our home! ;) I had actually already bought her bedding a few months back, but I found this set at a yard sale and fell in love with it. It's a lot more age-appropriate than the first one I bought.
So, Annabel LOVES sleeping in her big girl bed. She has slept through the night almost every night (maybe except one?) since we got it and has not wanted anything to do with sleeping with mommy and daddy. She has also been putting herself to sleep rather than wanting to be rocked, which is kind of sad, since it means she is growing up! I think it is funny when people argue that sleeping with your children and not teaching "good sleep habits" will keep them from becoming independent or whatever. I'll be the first to admit that I have totally babied Annabel in this respect- allowing her to sleep with us, rocking her to sleep, nursing her until she was 2 1/2... and yet here she is as secure and independent as a tot can be! And I don't regret a minute of the time I spent holding and rocking and cuddling and nursing my first baby. You can't ever go back to the precious baby years and I'm so glad I didn't spend it listening to her cry herself to sleep in her crib.

The first day it was set up- so exciting!

What she loves to do most in her new bed!

Anxiously awaiting to see how she'll do the first night...

Not too bad! Must be pretty comfy!

The hanging netting is pretty, but kind of a pain in the butt! I worry that she'll get wrapped up in it as she sleeps so it goes behind the bed!

My ginormous self at 40 weeks exactly- so glad to have the room together finally!

Changing table/dresser

I love this shelf. I rescued it from my grandparents' basement (it was a lovely vintage orange!) to use as diaper storage. It looks really great and gives me so much more storage room. I love having everything organized and can't wait to try all this fluff on his adorable little newborn butt!

I love his name above the crib. Like most of the projects I take on, this was a lot more tedious and time consuming than I expected- but worth it. So cute. And I decided I was sick of looking at monkeys and couldn't take it for another two/three years, so...

New crib bedding ;)

And Annabel, just because she's cute! Did anyone else hit up the $2 tank tops at Old Navy??

Hello there! It's been a while since I popped in and here you - gorgeous and full term! Congratulations! That bed is beautiful - I am green with envy (and so is my girl). Best of luck! Can't wait to "meet" the little guy.

Tried to post yesterday and it wouldn't let me...ugh. Anyway, love what you've done with their room. Asher's name turned out great!! And I agree...sharing a room builds a lot of character. :)
